Earth Day Celebration a Success
 We had a blast at the first Kids in the Pearl Earth Day Event! Kids and parents trekked around the Pearl, engaging in fun planned activities at eight different locations. At POSH Boutique, we helped the kids plant marigold seeds and gave them a little lesson on Carbon Dioxide. Thanks to everyone who came out for the event and thanks to Nancy (and Abra) for the post and pic on Neighborhood Notes.

Kids in the Pearl presents free Earth Day Event
 Celebrate Earth Day with an educational tour for children focused on sustainability, recycling, and respecting the planet.Kids in the Pearl, a group of kid-friendly businesses in the Pearl District, will be hosting an Earth Day educational event for kids on Saturday, April 26th. Participating businesses will be offering events and activities that teach children about simple ways to care for and protect the planet. Each business will be offering an activity or take-home project that will give children a hands-on experience to better appreciate the planet. Kids can decorate their own re-usable canvas tote bag at Little Urbanites and make coffee ground fossils at Sip & Kranz. They can make a keepsake wall hanging at Green Frog Toys, receive their very own sunflower seedling at Cool Moon Ice Cream, and participate in a hands-on planting project focused on CO2 education at Posh Boutique. Cupcake Jones will be offering an Earth Day themed activity book for all ages, and both Ben & Jerry’s and Pop Culture frozen yogurt will be giving free frozen treats to any child who completes an Earth Day themed coloring page. The best part is that the entire event is absolutely free!  April 2008: The Camps Issue!Camp Namanu Reintroduces Family Camp WeekendsCamp Namanu, run by Camp Fire USA, reintroduced its family camp program two and half years ago, providing a unique nature experience to local families. “One of the great assets that we have with Namanu is 90 years of rich traditions. Family Camp is one of those,” says Keith Thomajan, CEO. He describes it as the ideal stepping stone for families that want to make their kids more comfortable going to camp. The days at family camp are structured so that parents spend part of the day on their own, hiking, rock-climbing, boating, or napping in the sun, while children (ages 3 and up) engage in age-appropriate activities with camp counselors. The other part of the day is spent with the entire family participating in structured activities for the entire family.
